Children from Cyril Jackson took part in the Tower Hamlets Book Awards and chose to tell part of the story from ‘A Monster Calls’ by Patrick Ness.

The children said of the book:

"We chose 'A Monster Calls' because we felt that it was not only a gripping read but a very challenging one, especially when Connor, the main character, finally faces the truth about his mother.

We really enjoyed its' twin themes about Connor's everyday life and the dreaming nightmare life he experiences with the 'monster'. We also felt that we could relate to his struggles at home and at school. The black and white illustrations also added to the atmosphere of the story.

Make sure you have the tissues ready when you read this book!"
